PHOA Board Chair, President: Betigel Workalemahu
Betigel Workalemahu, born 27 Dec 1980, earned Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Health (1998-2002) and Master’s Degree in International Health (2009-2011) from Debub University (Ethiopia) and University of Basel (Switzerland). For the last 12 years, Betigel has been working at strategic and operational management of comprehensive Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (RMNCH) programs with government and NGOs’ in Ethiopia. He has excellent track record of extracurricular activities such as being Chairperson of Student Council, founding member of associations and Team Leader of graduating students that proved his communication and influencing skills. These are pivotal attributes of a good leader. Before he was elected as President, Betigel was the member of PHOA’s Advisory Council and Chairperson of the Strategic Plan Development Team.
PHOA Board Member, Public Relation: Abiy Seifu
Abiy Seifu is a lecturer at the Addis Ababa University – School of Public Health, Department of Reproductive Health and Health Service Management. He has experience working on national level MNCH programs as a Senior Newborn Health Advisor and Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor with large international organizations. His role in PHOA as Public Relation focal person builds upon his longstanding role in the association as vibrant communicant of progress within the association and on different issues. Abiy is the founding President of the association. Abiy holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from Haromaya University and MPH from Addis Ababa University.
PHOA Board Secretary: Bekalu Tesfa
Bekalu Tesfa has more than twelve years of concrete experience in providing leadership and management support for Primary Health Care including Maternal Neonatal and Child Health (MNCH) and HIV/AIDS programs at the regional and national level mostly in International Non Governmental Organizations (INGO). As the Program Director for USAID funded Project, Bekalu has experienced providing strategic and technical leadership and management to the biomedical intervention of Population Service International Ethiopia’s MULU/Worksite HIV Prevention Project. He has excellent organizational skills and competencies which were acquired working for different organizations. While working at John Snow Inc.(JSI) as Regional Manager, he has been responsible in coordinating all activities in 5 regions and 2 city administrations related to the implementation of the Urban Health Extension Program including coordination of staff, budgets and the overall implementation of the project. He was also coordinating people while he was working for EngenderHealth, Intrahealth International Ethiopia and Medicine San Frontier (MSF) Holland. Bekalu holds Master of Public Health from University of Gondar and Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Health from Haramaya University, Dire Dawa, Ethiopia. He is PHOA Board Secretary.
PHOA Board Member, Finance: Alem Agazi
Alem Agazi has a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from Haromaya University and Master of Public Health (MPH) in Reproductive Health from Addis Ababa University. Currently, she is a Program Manager at University of Connecticut Ethiopia. She has vast experience in managing health related activities as Program Officer, Grant and Project Officer and Health Service and Family Planning Expert at National and District level.
PHOA Board Member, Resource Moblization: Ben Tegegn
Ben Tegegne is working in Addis Ababa City Health Bureau, Health Service Delivery Process Owner Head, Support and Monitoring Progamme Coordinator. He has experienced working in Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or General Manager of the hospital and zonal health department HIV/AIDS Prevention and Reproductive Health senior program coordinator. He has also served as clinician at different level of public health facilities. His role in PHOA as a resource mobilization focal person builds upon his longstanding role in the association as valuable participant of progress within the association and on different issues. Ben holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from University of Gondar and MPH/MHA from Jimma University.
PHOA Member, Intern: Blen Tarekegn
Blen Tarekegn, born 10 Dec 1989GC, has a Bachelor of Science degree in Public health (2009-2012) from Mekelle University College of health science. Currently she is working as an intern in Management science for health (MSH) an international organization funded by USAID on a project called Leadership, management and governance (LMG). She has an experience working as a clinician in regional health centers. And engage in a good number of extracurricular activities.
